A simple smb.conf for a read-only share in Samba 4 can look like below:

[global]
    workgroup = mygroup
    server string = Samba Server Version %v
    netbios name = SAMBA
    log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m
    max log size = 50
    guest ok = yes
    security = user
    map to guest = Bad Password

[samba]
    path = /srv/samba
    read only = yes
    browseable = yes
    guest ok = yes
    guest only = yes

You can mount it on Linux with:

mount -t cifs //192.168.0.12/samba /mnt/samba
